The annual “Keep Washington Beautiful” spring cleanup day for Downtown Washington will take place this Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.

Sponsored by Downtown Washington Inc., volunteers will pull and spray weeds, mulch, plant flowers, pick up trash and do some light maintenance, such as installing plaques.

Board members and staff also will help, said Danielle Grotewiel, event chair.

More than 40 volunteers have signed and anyone interested in helping should meet at the downtown post office at 8 a.m. Volunteers will be placed on teams and assigned an area.

This is the fourth year for the cleanup.

The Washington Lions Club will prepare lunch for all of the volunteers at the riverfront.

The general cleanup area will be along Elm and Oak streets, from Main to Front streets, and the cross streets. The downtown group worked with the city to determine what projects to be tackled for the cleanup.

Some basic cleanup also will done on Front, Main and Jefferson, as well as the downtown post office and the old cabin at Second and Jefferson streets.

Volunteers should dress appropriately, and wear sunscreen and bring extra water.

Free T-shirts, while supplies last, also will be given out to the volunteers.
