A large number of walkers are expected to turn out this Saturday for the annual Franklin County Heart Walk at the Washington Fairgrounds swine pavilion.
Participants can gather at 9 a.m. with a warm-up before the walk. The opening ceremony begins at 9:30 a.m. with recognition of Lifestyle Change Awards and Fit Friendly Companies.
The walk gets under way at 10 a.m.
The Heart Walk is sponsored nationally by Subway and Jenny Craig and locally by the Bank of Washington and Mercy. This is the fifth year the city of Washington is hosting the walk.
The Heart Walk features a one- and three-mile route around Lions Lake and through Downtown Washington.
The walk is open to the public and there is no fee to participate. Both family teams and individual walkers are welcome to participate.
Mercy will be at the Heart Walk offering information and health screenings.
Organizers hope to surpass previous years’ attendance of approximately 600 walkers.
Registration is not required, however, walker envelopes are available at all seven Bank of Washington locations prior to the walk, or people may call Julia Kelley, American Heart Association, 314-296-5600, or Ruth Birk, Bank of Washington, 636-221-3608.
