There is now a race for two open seats on the Washington School Board.

John Lippert, 2564 Stonecrest Drive, Washington, filed Wednesday.

A total of three candidates have now filed, including incumbent Daniel Contarini and Trish Mitchell, both of Washington. Contarini and Mitchell filed opening day.

Contarini, who resides at 1305 E. Third St., is completing a three-year term. He also served on the board in the late ’90s.

Mitchell lives at 821 W. Fifth St. This is her first run for school board.

Rick Rehmeier, a longtime board member, already announced he does not plan to seek re-election.

The last day for candidates to file is next Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, at 5 p.m.

Regular filing hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the district’s administration building, 220 Locust St. in Washington.

If no one else files, an election will not be held since there are two candidates for the two open seats.

School board candidates must be citizens of the United States and resident taxpayers of the district who have resided in the state of Missouri for one year preceding their election.

Candidates also must be at least 24 years of age, not a registered sex offender, not serving a sentence or period of probation for a felony or a crime that if committed in Missouri would have been a felony, and have never been convicted of or pled guilty to a felony or misdemeanor under the federal laws of the United States of America.

School board members serve three-year terms.
