Plans are under way for the 2013 Holiday Parade of Lights, sponsored by Downtown Washington Inc.

The event, always held the day after Thanksgiving, will take place Friday, Nov. 29, at 6 p.m.

Parade entries are currently being accepted, according to Bridgette Epple, executive director.

“We limit the parade to 50 entries so we encourage people to get their entry forms in early,” said Epple. “As always, all entries must be decoratively lighted.”

The parade will wind through the downtown streets, beginning and ending at the Main and Elm streets parking lot.

There will be two judging categories: nonprofit and business/individual.

The top winners in the nonprofit division will receive a trophy and the first-place entry will receive $100. Trophies will be presented to the top three winners in the business/individual division. Entries can choose not to be judged.

The corporate sponsor of the parade this year is the Bank of Washington.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will serve as the grand marshals.

Immediately after the parade, Santa and Mayor Sandy Lucy will light the Downtown Christmas tree at the Main and Elm street parking lot.

“The tree will go up Monday, Nov. 18, but we will wait until after the parade to officially turn on the lights,” said Epple.

Santa will be available after the tree lighting to visit with children under the Farmers’ Market.

Parade entry forms can be found on the organization’s website.

For more information, people may call the downtown office, 636-239-1743.
