Felony forgery charges were levied against a St. Louis woman accused of attempting to cash a fraudulent check.
Brittany Sconyers, 30, was charged recently in Franklin County Associate Circuit Court with one count of forgery, a Class D felony.
The charges stem from a Nov. 22, 2017, arrest by Union police. Just after noon, officers were called to the United Bank of Sullivan after a bank employee called police to report a woman trying to cash a fraudulent check.
According to the probable cause statement filed with the prosecuting attorney’s office, Sconyers attempted to cash the check for $1,938.71.
An employee at the bank noted the check had been altered. The owner of the check told a bank employee the check was stolen, according to the probable cause statement.
Police arrived on the scene and, after a brief investigation arrested two people, including Sconyers.
