The annual Winter Wonderland Parade and children’s Christmas party are set for this Friday, Dec. 8.
The parade is sponsored by the Union Area Chamber of Commerce and the party, immediately following the parade, is hosted by the Union Parks Department.
The parade theme is “Christmas Traditions,” and it will feature floats decked out in holiday lights, as well as walking entries. The American Legion Post 297 will lead the parade again this year.
Some other participants will include first responders, Willow Brooke and Victorian Place, United Bank, Villa West Dance, Dance Zone, Hall Brothers, Havin Material, the city of Union, the Scenic Regional Library Bookmobile, KFAV, Premium Interiors and others.
The East Central Choir will carol around the Old Courthouse prior to the parade,
The parade will begin at 6 p.m.
Staging is at the Central Elementary parking lot;
Parade begins at Washington Avenue and East Springfield Avenue;
North on South Washington Avenue to East Main Street;
East on Main Street to South Church Street;
South on South Church Street to Locust Street;
West on East Locust Street to S. Jefferson Avenue;
South on South Jefferson Avenue to East Springfield Avenue; and
Ends at South Jefferson and E. Springfield.
The Christmas party will follow the parade, about 6:30 p.m., at the city auditorium.
The event will include face painting, a balloon sculptor and visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus.
Each child ages 2 to 10 will receive a gift.
Visitors should bring their own camera for pictures with Santa.
“I am very excited to see my first children’s Christmas party from start to finish,” said Parks Director Angela Sullivan, adding that she also will be on the city’s float in the parade. “I’m eager to see the community come out for the celebration.”
The party is free, but participants are asked to bring canned food items if possible to benefit the food pantry.
