Union High School alumnus and Emmy Award-winning television correspondent, producer, videographer, and communications specialist Alex Fees will be the keynote speaker at the Union Area Chamber of Commerce’s Evening of Excellence banquet Thursday night at the city auditorium.
Fees currently serves as a communications coordinator for the Rockwood School District.
In 2015 and 2016, he was a reporter and producer at Tribune Media’s KTVI Fox 2 and KPLR News 11.
For 15 years Fees freelanced as a correspondent and videographer at KSDK News Channel 5. During that time he also served as a freelance field producer for many news networks, cable networks and entertainment shows.
For several years Fees wrote and produced a half-hour, weekly kids show for the St. Louis Cardinals. Emmy Award-winning “Cardinals Crew,” starring former pitcher Andy Benes and Fredbird, appears in six states on Fox Sports-Midwest.
Alex is a 1982 graduate of Union High School, and a 1987 graduate of Southeast Missouri State University. He and his wife, Rachel, live in Brentwood with their sons, Jacob and Daniel.
“We chose Alex Fees as the keynote speaker because he has such strong ties to the community,” said Melissa Vogt, Chamber director.
About 135 people are expected for the dinner and ceremony.
“A lot of wonderful businesses and organizations were nominated. It was a touGh choice to decide on four winners,” Vogt said. “Those selected are very deserving and we’re looking forward to a great evening honoring those businesses and organizations.”
Awards to be presented include:
Community Partner of the Year — In recognition of a business that has provided outstanding dedication and support of the Union community or had a significant business achievement during the year.
NonProfit Organization of the Year — In recognition of a local 501(c)(3), (c)(4), or (c)(6) organization whose exceptional delivery of services to the community sets a high standard of quality and impact.
Uniquely Union — In recognition of a local business that sets itself apart from other businesses in the Union community, whether through services offered, goods offered, business practices, etc.
Outstanding Community Project — In recognition of a project or event that has made an exceptional contribution to community needs. The project’s success and achievements will be considered. The project can be a one-time occurrence, yearly, or throughout the year.
To be nominated, the business must be a member in good standing with the Union Area Chamber of Commerce and meet the additional criteria for the specific award.

Nonprofit Organization of the Year — ALIVE, Inc., 2014; Scenic Regional Library, 2015; and Franklin County Honor Flight, 2016.
Uniquely Union — Hall Brothers Lumber, 2014; K-D Machine & Tool, Inc., 2015; and Intek Corporation, 2016.
Outstanding Community Project — Project United, 2015; and Kiwanis Playground at Veterans Memorial Park, Union Kiwanis Club and Project United, 2016.
