The four-day Franklin County Fair kicks off Thursday.
The event will run through June 10 at the Fairgrounds in Union. Tickets are still on sale.
Crews spent the first part of the week setting up for the annual Fair in order to get things ready for opening day. One of the groups getting ready is new to the Fair.
Fun Time Shows will be providing the rides for the Fair this year. Fair Board member Eric Schmuke told The Missourian organizers wanted to switch things up.
Fun Time Shows will bring all new rides.
“We’ve been hearing from people the last few years ‘Same old rides, same old rides,’” Schmuke said. “So we brought in a new company.”
The new rides figure to be the most noticeable change about the 2018 Fair. The biggest change is that the event is starting in June.
Organizers were forced to alter the dates because of a scheduling issue with the sled for the truck and tractor pull. Schmuke said moving things up a month was the only way to make all the pieces fit together.
While the schedule change was not planned, Schmuke said organizers may get an unexpected benefit out it — better weather.
“It’s supposed to be cooler at night, and that’s what we’re hoping for,” he said. “It might get down to the 60s at night. I like that.”
The cooler weather could come into play during the evening concerts. Schmuke said instead of a main stage headliner, the Fair Board opted for more concerts in the entertainment tent.
The shows will be Steve Leslie Band, Friday at 8 p.m.; Nathan Gerling, Saturday at 4 p.m.; Shotgun Creek Band, Saturday at 8 p.m.; and KG Lillian, Sunday at 6 p.m.
For more information or updates on the Fair, visitors are encouraged to visit Facebook. Schmuke said all updates will be posted on the group’s Facebook page.
