There will be an electronics recycling drive Saturday, June 28, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The event is being conducted with Midwest Recycling Center (MRC) based in Crystal City. The recycling drive is open to anyone, not just Union residents or businesses. The event will be at the city’s street department maintenance shed located at 202 W. Brown St. off of North Washington Avenue.

During the event, items and cash donations for the Union Food Pantry also will be collected.

MRC is a state-certified recycling business that specializes in the safe disposal of computers, electronics and appliances. MRC often works with businesses and communities across eastern Missouri to conduct large-scale recycling efforts that greatly reduce waste going to landfills.

There is a limit of one CRT television collected at no cost. Each additional CRT television is $15. Computer hard drives are erased with federally approved software.

Major appliances, including washers, dryers, dishwashers, and those with refrigerants, will be collected.

Other items to be collected include printers, keyboards, computer mice, cellphones, wires and cables, pagers, scanners, speakers, VCRs, DVD players, fax machines, telephones, answering machines, microwaves, stereos, gaming systems, cameras, stoves, air-conditioning units, car batteries and other items.

People also may recycle gas and electric powered yard tools, including lawn mowers or weed eaters. The tools must be drained of gas and oil.
