A 25-year-old Cape Girardeau man was killed early Sunday in a two-vehicle accident on Highway 50 west of old Highway 50.
According to the Missouri Highway Patrol's preliminary report, Brandon L. Janssen, the driver of one of the vehicles, was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the 1:50 a.m. crash just east of Gerald.
Five others involved in the crash were injured, three of them seriously.
The patrol stated that a 2009 Pontiac G6 driven by Darren K. Gamblin, 23, of Eldon, was westbound on Highway 50 while a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am driven by Janssen was eastbound. The Grand Am crossed the center line and struck the G6.
Janssen was not wearing a safety belt, the patrol's report stated.
A passenger traveling with Janssen, 26-year-old Ignacio C. Serna, of Fulton, suffered serious injuries.
Two people in the G6, Gamblin and a passenger, 23-year-old Casey N. Gamblin, of Eldon, also seriously were injured in the accident.
Serna and Casey Gamblin were not wearing safety belts.
Also injured were infant Rylee N. Gamblin, of Eldon, and David L. Schermerhorn, 25, of Eldon.
Darren and Casey Gamblin were transported by air ambulance to Mercy Hospital St. Louis. Rylee Gamblin was taken to Mercy Hospital Washington as were Schermerhorn and Serna.
