The search is still under way for a new Union Area Chamber of Commerce Director.

Chamber Board President Stacy Rio said she has received some resumes, but the board is looking to expand the field of candidates before making a selection.

“We want someone who has experience planning events,” she said.

Other qualifications include bookkeeping and public speaking.

“We’re looking for somebody who is not afraid to pound the pavement and get more members,” Rio added.

Tammy Stowe resigned from her position last month and her last day was June 7. She has taken a position at East Central College.

Rio noted that applications can be mailed to P.O. Box 168, Union, MO 63084. Applications also can be dropped off at the Union Chamber office located at 105 S. Oak St.

Duties will include: coordinating all Chamber events and meetings, membership growth and retention, representation at civic and community events, media and news communication, budgeting, financial reporting and staffing.

But Rio added that the new director should think outside the box.

“We are looking for new and fresh ideas,” she said.

Upcoming Events

Rio said there still will be the annual Sunrise Scramble golf tournament. It is scheduled for Friday, July 19, and Chamber members, as well as the public, are encouraged to form a team and take part.

“We’re going to have some things that are new and fun so people will want to come back and join us, or come out for the first time,” she said.

There also are plans for a Long Haul Barbecue and Service Award. That event will likely be held in August.

“That’s something everybody really enjoys,” Rio said. “We would hate to not be able to do it.”

The event has historically been held in June.

The Chamber will also be on hand at the Franklin County Fair for the children’s pedal tractor pull.

Once a new director is hired, the Chamber will continue with a new luncheon speaker series.

For more information about Chamber events or activities, people may call the office at 636-583-8979.
