Health insurance for full-time East Central College employees will be provided by a new carrier in 2014.
College trustees approved the change to Anthem at their Oct. 7 meeting.
“Anthem provided the best rate for health insurance, with minimal changes in the plan,” stated Wendy Hartmann, ECC’s director of human resources.
The employee rate for 2014 will be $588.62 per month, compared to $591.12 under the current plan with Coventry.”
Hartmann noted that the reduction will offset the Affordable Care Act fees assessed with the premium.
Employees will have the option for non BJC Healthcare coverage resulting in additional funds being deposited into a health savings account, reduction in employee coverage rate or contribution to a flexible spending account.
Hartmann explained that the coverage through Anthem will remain the same as what employees have now with the option of a base, buy-up, or high deductible plan.
The college will continue to fund the plan at 100 percent of the individual base plan.
Vision insurance will again be provided through VSP with no change in the rate. There will be no change in the rates for life, accidental death and dismemberment and long-term disability coverage through Guardian.
Dental coverage will also continue with Guardian. The rate increases approximately 2.5 percent to $32.34 per month for each employee.
The College pays the vision and dental insurance premium for all full-time employees, with employees able to add spouse and/or children at an additional cost.
Trustees also authorized renewal of the United Healthcare Medicare Advantage PPO as the group Medicare Part C plan offered to ECC retirees. The plan involves no premium for either the college or the individual.
