The Union R-XI Board of Education will hold a study/work session Monday, Nov. 4, at 6 p.m. in the high school board room.

Items on the agenda include an action to approve a solar photovoltaic system lease with one of two companies that gave presentations at the Oct. 16 board meeting, Microgrid Solar and Brightergy.

Both companies offer a leasing program that would include free installation of solar panels and an educational program for the students about solar energy.

The programs stem from Missouri’s renewable energy standard under Proposition C that requires electric companies to generate or purchase at least 2 percent of the electricity they sell from renewable sources. The percentage will gradually increase to approximately 15 percent by 2021.

Ameren offers the rebate to commercial, industrial, residential and nonprofit customers, schools, local, state and federal government agencies, as well as agricultural entities and institutions.

Customers can receive rebates up to $50,000 throughout the lifetime of the program, which will phase out in July 2020.

The cost of the lease would be between $1,800 to $2,000 per year per array (cluster of solar panels).

Also on the agenda is an action to approve civil engineering services for an ADA ramp at the high school softball/baseball complex now under construction.

The board also will work on amendments to board policies.
