The Union Area Chamber of Commerce is bringing in a big catch for this year’s membership dinner — St. Louis Cardinals’ Manager Mike Matheny.
The baseball skipper will be the keynote speaker for the dinner to be held Thursday, Nov. 21, at the Immaculate Conception Parish Center.
Chamber Executive Director Aimee Frey said there are some major changes to the membership dinner this year.
“With the success that we had with the Long Haul, we made some changes and want to continue to refresh our events,” she said. “We wanted to make this a little more formal and make it a bigger deal — this is an end-of-the-year thank you to people for their investment in the Chamber.”
The cost is $50 per person, which includes an open bar and prime rib dinner provided by Johnny’s Restaurant.
“We wanted to go big and we hope people are as excited about this as we are,” said Frey. “We think this will be a big hit.”
This year’s event will be open to nonChamber members, but not before Chamber members get the first crack at purchasing tickets.
The tickets will be offered exclusively to Chamber members from now until Oct. 31, then the tickets will be available to the public until Nov. 15.“
We wanted to give something fresh, and unique to our current members, but also this is a way to attract new people to the Chamber and get our name out there more,” Frey said.
She explained that she and the Chamber board discussed several speaker options, and decided that Matheny would draw a large crowd.
“We thought he would be the one a lot of people want to see,” said Frey.
She added that the Chamber is soliciting sponsorships from businesses. Sponsors will take part in a meet and greet with Matheny prior to the dinner.There will be three levels of sponsorships, each with different incentives. There is a $1,000 home run level; $500 bar level and $200 dugout sponsor. The event also will feature a silent auction, and items are now being accepted. The auction will fund Chamber events and education for its members.
Tickets are now on sale at the Chamber, and people may call Frey at 636-583-8979 for more information, to donate silent auction items or to sponsor the event.Chamber members will soon receive an invitation in the mail, Frey said.
She added that the new Chamber logo may be unveiled during the dinner.Local designers and artists are invited to submit artwork for the new Union Area Chamber of Commerce logo, which is part of an overall branding effort at the Chamber.The winner will be selected Nov. 12, Frey said.
Artwork must be submitted in a high-resolution digital file or a clean camera-ready copy, and it must be submitted in black and white, gray scale and color;
The logo must contain “Union Area Chamber of Commerce” and “Union, Missouri” to be eligible.
