The Franklin County Fair kicks off Sunday with a parade and dance in Union.

The second annual Fair parade is Sunday, July 6, beginning at 5:30 p.m. The Fair runs from Thursday, July 10, through Sunday, July 13.

Grand marshal for this year’s parade will be Ralph Oltmann, who is the oldest living Franklin County Fair chairman.

The Fair is celebrating 60 years and Oltmann chaired the event in 1959.

“He is the oldest living chairman and that goes well with our theme of looking back over 60 years,” said Fair Chairman Eric Schmuke.

He noted that there will likely be about 30 floats this year, similar to last year, but organizers are looking for a more participation from the public.

“We want more people to come out and watch,” Schmuke said. “We wanted to have something free for the community to do before the Fair begins.”

The parade will begin at city hall and will travel west on Locust Street, north on Church Street and west on Main Street. The parade will go to Christina Avenue where it will go north to Park Avenue where it goes west. The parade ends at the fairgrounds.

At the fairgrounds there will be a dance from 6-9 p.m. featuring a performance by Steve Leslie.  There will be food and drinks available for purchase during that event.

The public is invited to come out to watch the parade.
