A local band is asking for help to win an international contest that could help lift their career.

January May, comprised of Union High School graduates and current East Central College students Matthew Campbell, guitar and vocals; KG Lillian, guitar and vocals; and Adam Zimmer, bass and drums, are competing in the Artist Signal competition to win $10,000 toward their next release.

January May has performed locally at high schools and other venues.

Artist Signal is an international contest where musicians and bands can compete for one month to try and get as many votes as they can to bring home the prize.

People may visit www.artistsignal.com/januarymay to vote for the band.

Facebook users can vote every hour until the contest ends Thursday, Feb. 28, at midnight.

Friday morning, January May was in second place with more than 25,000 votes. The band is less than 600 votes from first place.

Band members said they are grateful for the support and votes.

“We’re really feeling the love and can’t believe how supportive everyone has been just because we’re a local band,” said Lillian. “Not only that, but with votes coming in from other states and even other countries there hasn’t been a dull moment since it’s begun.”

Band members stressed that it does not take long to vote, and each vote counts.

“We appreciate every vote that comes in — we’d love it if we could bake cookies to show our gratitude to every single person,” Campbell said. “All you need is a Facebook account and 10 seconds. You even get free downloads after voting so many times.”
