Franklin County Fair Chairman Eric Schmuke said this year’s event is off to a smooth start and attendance is up compared to previous years.

“Everything was up Thursday and everything has been going good,” he said.

He noted that the gate admissions at the Fair, held in Union, are higher than they had been in 2012 and 2011.

“We also are up on season passes compared to last year,” Schmuke added.

There are some major events coming up Saturday and Sunday that are expected to again draw large crowds, including the National Federation of Professional Bullriders bull ride and country singer Randy Houser on the main stage Saturday.

“We’re looking for big crowds for the concert and bull ride,” Schmuke said.

The truck and tractor pulls are slated for Sunday.

“We’re hoping that tractor pullers come out,” Schmuke said. “We have never had it on a Sunday.”

“It’s going be a great time this weekend,” he added.
