A Villa Ridge man has been charged with assault for allegedly stabbing a man in the back with a pocket knife Friday.

According to Franklin County Sheriff Gary Toelke, Isaiah W. Burr, 20, is charged with stabbing David Donovan during an argument at a home on North Drive in Villa Ridge.

Authorities said Donovan and Burr had been on the telephone arguing before 10 p.m. when Donovan went to the residence where the argument continued and became physical.

Burr told deputies that Donovan struck him in the face and attempted to leave the home. That is when Burr stabbed him in the back, Toelke said.

Donovan drove from the residence toward a Union Ambulance building when a Franklin County deputy sawDonovan speed through red light at Highway 50 and Highway 47.

The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, however, Donovan did not stop the car until he arrived at the ambulance building to seek medical attention.

Donovan was transported to Mercy Hospital Washington. His condition was unknown Sunday, authorities said.

Burr is being held on $20,000 bond.  There also were two misdemeanor warrants for his arrest, Toelke said.
