Jim Borgmann and Karen Tucker have each won a seat on the Union R-IX Board of Education.

Five candidates vied for two seats on the board in the April election, including incumbent Jennifer Slay and two political newcomers, Donald Quaethem and Aaron Bockhorst.

Tucker, 62, received the largest percentage of votes with a 28.94 percent approval, or 899 votes, followed closely by incumbent Borgmann, who received 877, or 28.24 percent.

“It feels really good,” Tucker said. “I feel like I’m starting a new chapter in my life and it’s great to be getting back into education. It feels like I’m where I’m supposed to be.”

Although Tucker will be new to the board, she is greatly familiar with the Union School District, with more than 30 years as a Union teacher, assistant principal and principal.

Borgmann received the second highest amount of votes, with 877, or 28.24 percent.

Borgmann, 61, will serve his second consecutive term, but also was on the board from 1988 to 2000.

“I am delighted to have been elected to a second term on the board,” Borgmann said. “I appreciate the support and trust of residents of the district who have re-elected me and am looking forward to serving the district and to working toward continuing to do all we can as a district to make all students of the district a success story.”

Tucker and Borgmann will be take their seats at the April 15 school board meeting.
