A woman was rescued early Tuesday morning after she drove her vehicle into rising flood waters on Old Cove Road near Moselle.

St. Clair Fire Protection District Interim Chief Mike Kelley told The Missourian later on Tuesday morning that the woman was not injured and was rescued without incident.

At 5:08 a.m., fire crews were dispatched to the scene on Old Cove Road between Moselle Road and Cedar Lake Drive and found the woman on the hood of her car. She said she had driven the vehicle into the high water on the road, causing the engine to stall. When water started flowing into the car, Kelley said the woman got out and climbed on the hood and called 911.

The interim chief said there was about 10 to 12 inches of water on the road and that the road is in a flood-prone area.

Kelley did not know the woman's name.

Old Cove Road was closed on Tuesday after the incident.
