Two area residents were seriously injured after a car crash Friday night, March 2.

Jeffery A. Markisc, 42, St. Clair, was driving a 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis on Highway 47, north of Happy Sac Road, when he fell asleep and failed to maintain control of the car at 11:55 p.m., according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol preliminary report.

Markisc's vehicle traveled across the center lane, off the left side of the road, down an embankment and struck a utility pole.

Markisc and passenger Mandy E. Bizzle 29, Union, were transported to Mercy Hospital Washington by St. Clair Ambulance for serious injuries.

The driver and passenger were both wearing seat belts, the patrol said.
