More scholarships will be awarded to St. Clair High seniors this year by the St. Clair High School Alumni Association.
The association’s fall trivia event held Nov. 11 at Holy Trinity Christian Life Center raised more than $6,000 that will go toward scholarships that seniors can apply for, according to the association board Chairman Mickey Dildine. The spring event raised approximately $3,000.
Last year, the association awarded 17 $500 scholarships and this year, Dildine said the association will award 10 $1,000 scholarships.
Trivia night is usually the association’s biggest fundraiser, he added. There were 18 tables filled with at least eight people in attendance. In addition to trivia, people could bid on silent auction items.
“We had a really good turnout from the community. It was pretty awesome,” Dildine said.
Two checks were also presented that night to Dildine and board treasurer Erin Wideman for the St. Clair High Alumni Association.
One check was in the amount of $750 presented by Fred Becker and Karen Queen on behalf of the St. Clair High School Classes of the 1960s. Dildine said the money was collected during a reunion of classes from 1960-1969.
The other check was in the amount of $300, which was given by Stephanie Butenhoff and Shannon Heideman on behalf of the Class of 1987. The money donated was a portion from the 30-year reunion for the Class of 1987, according to Dildine.
“St. Clair’s a very giving community,” Dildine said.
SCHS Alumni Association
The St. Clair High School Association is a nonprofit that was formed in 2010 by the Class of 1963. The purpose is to provide scholarships for graduating seniors who plan to attend college or trade school.
Students can complete a scholarship application, which can be found at the high school counselor’s office. Applications are submitted to the alumni association and reviewed by a separate selection committee.
