A Sullivan woman was injured in a car crash after falling asleep Wednesday, Nov. 7.

Donna F. Deaton, 69, Sullivan, was driving a 2004 Dodge Stratus westbound on Interstate 44 near the 226 mile marker when she fell asleep. Her vehicle traveled off the left side of the road, returned to the road and into the second lane, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol preliminary report.

The vehicle then struck the rear of a 2013 Kenworth T700 driven by Brian W. Plmak, 54, Chester, Virginia. The Kenworth traveled off the left side of the road and struck the median cable barriers.

Deaton was taken to Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital by Missouri Baptist Sullivan EMS with serious injuries.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts, the patrol said.
