A Sullivan woman was injured after driving off Interstate 44 Monday, Jan. 8.

Janet N. Welch, 53, Sullivan, was driving a 2003 Ford Explorer westbound on I-44 when she tried to stop and lost control of the vehicle at 2:38 p.m., according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol preliminary report.

Her vehicle traveled off the right side of the road and struck the guardrail. She returned onto a road and then traveled to the left across both lanes and struck the center median cable with her vehicle.

Passenger Connie L. Hoke, 56, Sullivan, was taken to Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital by St. Clair EMS for injuries. The driver and passenger were both wearing seat belts, the patrol said.
