St. Clair R-XIII School District officials are investigating why a student was left on the bus Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 8.
A preschooler attending St. Clair Elementary’s half-day program did not get off the bus to attend class that afternoon, according to Superintendent Kyle Kruse.
The child remained on the bus throughout the afternoon. The driver had parked the bus in the bus lot located behind the junior high.
The student was discovered when the driver went to prepare the bus to take students home around 2:30 p.m.
“Thankfully he is OK and we have been in contact with the family,” Kruse told The Missourian.
“It’s very upsetting to us because we have procedures specifically designed to prevent this kind of thing from happening,” he said. “Either they weren’t effective or they weren’t followed effectively and we’re investigating to find out what happened and make sure that this does not happen again.
“We’ll make sure this doesn’t happen again.”
