The St. Clair Park Board has teamed up with the St. Clair Downtown District, Inc. to host the Main Street Christmas event following the annual parade set for Saturday, Dec. 1.
The parade will kick off at 6 p.m., according to City Administrator Travis Dierker. Main Street and side streets, from Springfield Avenue to Kitchell Avenue, will remain closed for the Christmas event immediately following the parade. Activities during the event include pictures with Santa, ornament making, creating letters to Santa, roasting s’mores, facing painting, hair braiding, and more, according to Dierker. He added that there will be a brass band playing music and choirs will roam the streets singing carols.
In the works are a synthetic ice skating rink, a live Nativity scene, and possibly a cookie walk, Dierker said.
“We’re not having a bunch of outside vendors come in. Most of the vendors will just be our downtown organizations and downtown businesses,” Dierker said.
The Main Street Christmas event will last until 9 p.m. He added that the park board and the district will be meeting again to finalize information.
“I think there will be lots of activities for people of all ages to do,” he said.
Dierker added that he hopes the Christmas event will bring people to the downtown area.
“Maybe this is an opportunity to really bring some people into our downtown who don’t necessarily know what we offer in our downtown district,” he said.
“I’m just excited to bring people to that area and promote that area.”
The St. Clair Park Board is now accepting entries for the Main Street Christmas Parade.
The deadline for entry in the parade is Nov. 16, and the entry fee is $10. The fee increases after that date to $20. Those who enter after the 16th will be placed at the end of the parade lineup and will not be judged.
The parade will start lining up at 5 p.m. Applications can be emailed to you by emailing Jamie Frossard at email@example.com, or they can be found at city hall at 1 Paul Parks Drive.
