The Maverick 4-H Club returned victorious from the Missouri State 4-H Meats Judging Contest, which was Feb. 17 at the University of Missouri Columbia.
The club’s senior team placed first becoming state champions. It also earned them the coveted spot in the National 4-H Meats Judging Contest. The national contest will be held in October during the American Royal in Kansas City.
The team is comprised of four members age 14 and older. Members must identify retail cuts of meat, evaluate classes and give oral reasons for those placings. Senior team members include Kellen Glass, Emma Rose Ploch, Lilly Nix and Kole Glass.
Three members placed in the top 10 senior individuals including Kellen Glass, fourth place, Emma Rose Ploch, fifth, and Lilly Nix, seventh.
During the same contest, the Maverick 4-H Club also had two junior teams place in the top five. The team that included Ava Lou Ploch, Alena Nix and Elliot Glass placed third and the team that included Paighton Witt, Kendall Nix, Louis Nix and Otto Ploch placed fourth.
Paighton Witt received a medal for placing third in the junior individual standings. Team members also in the top 10 within the junior division include Alena Nix, seventh, Ava Lou Ploch, ninth, and Kendall Nix, 10th.
