A St. Clair man was arrested and charged after allegedly strangling a man and striking an officer.
Arlin Hemker, 51, was charged Monday, Jan. 8, in Franklin County Associate Court with second-degree domestic assault, third-degree assault – special victim and resisting arrest.
On Sunday, Jan. 7, at 8: 39 p.m. police were dispatched to a residence off Hickory Street regarding an assault in progress. On the scene, a 71-year-old male told police Hemker had knocked him to the floor and strangled him, according to Police Chief Bill Hammack.
When officers contacted Hemker, he “took a fighting stance” and “advanced toward the officers yelling profanities,” according to Hammack.
While officers tried to arrest him, Hemker struck an officer in the head with his fist. Another officer used a Taser on Hemker as he continued to fight with police.
Police arrested him and he was taken into custody. His bond was set at $30,000, according to Hammack.
