A St. Clair man was charged with burglary after entering a man’s home Nov. 23.

Paul D. Armistead, 20, St. Clair, was arrested and charged through Franklin County Circuit Court for second-degree burglary and armed criminal action.

According to Police Chief Bill Hammack, at 3:34 a.m. police were dispatched to a residence of Lone Oak Drive in reference to a person attempting to break in an apartment through the front door.

When an officer arrived on the scene, Armistead fled the residence. The officer noticed Armistead was carrying a backpack, was wearing rubber gloves and had handgun, according to Hammack.

The officer arrested Armistead without an incident and found a Taurus 9 mm handgun on him. The 26-year-old man whose apartment was broken into said he was awaken by sounds of someone attempting to make entry through the front door when he called the police, according to Hammack.

Armistead’s bond is set at $25,000.
