The opening of the St. Clair branch of Scenic Regional Library has been changed until Monday due to construction delays.
Check the Weekend Missourian for more information.
The expansion of the St. Clair Library is drawing attention from passersby as progress continues.
New architecture, landscape, patios, walkways, signage, lighting and more can be seen just from walking past the library.
“The new side is coming along quite well,” Branch Manager Kara Bell said.
Construction crews installed glass doors and the blacktop parking lot was being finished on Monday. Crews have also made a lot of progress inside the expansion as well, according to Bell.
On Wednesday, June 13, and Thursday, June 14, the library will be closed due to construction. During that time, Bell said books, the front desk and other items will be moved over to the new side. The current side will then be renovated to match to expansion.
Starting Friday, June 15, library goers will enter from the newly built entrance. The library will be organized differently until all of the renovations are complete.
“We won’t have flooring in when we move over there temporarily because they’re going to be doing that all at the end,” Bell said.
The expansion and renovations are expected to be completed later this summer.
The expansion will include meeting and study rooms stocked with TV monitors, a white board, tables and chairs; a children’s area; a larger teen space; an adult space equipped with an electric fireplace, a coffee bar and booth seating; a community garden; and outside patios.
One main asset the library will offer to the community is a large meeting room for groups and organizations, Bell said. People will be able to reserve the room in advance.
In the children’s area, she said there will be a 55-inch screen tablet loaded with educational games. More than one child will be able to play on the tablet at once. The area also will consist of padded cubbies for children to crawl in to read.
In the teen area, an Xbox will be set up with games rated teen and below for public use. Study pods also will be made available for teens to use.
The outdoor patios will have seating and a canvas to shield the sun. For the growing season of 2019, the library will have raised garden beds available for checkout, along with gardening tools and water.
The library will have more electric outlets for people to use if they need to charge their devices.
In July 2017, the Scenic Regional Library Board chose Wright Construction Services Inc., St. Peters, to do the construction work for all of the library branches.
Wright Construction Services Inc. had the lowest bid at $1.3 million. The Warrenton and St. Clair branches will be expanded and the Sullivan, New Haven, Owensville, Pacific and Wright City branches will all get new buildings.
