St. Clair firefighters responded to a vehicle fire Thursday, May 31. No injuries were reported.

Crews were dispatched to the 237-mile marker westbound on Interstate 44 for a report of a commercial vehicle on fire at 3 a.m.

Fire Capt. Dan Cooley said when police arrived on the scene, there was a tractor trailer involved in flames. Firefighters used a combination of water and foam to attack the blaze.

The trailer was hauling household paint, according to Cooley. The highway was closed until the fire was extinguished. The blaze was under control within 25 minutes.

The Department of Natural Resources was called to determine how the area should be cleaned up.

Crews remained on the scene until an official from the Department of Natural Resources arrived. All crews were released from the scene at 7:30 a.m.
