Starting Tuesday, Oct. 31, Mercy Ministries in St. Clair will hold a Bible class for community members.

The class will be taught by Ed Maher, a former pastor who recently moved to Union. He said the syllabus will cover several areas regarding the Bible starting with the basics.

Associate Pastor Carl Duff said this class will teach people how to read and understand the Bible.

“This is for anybody who wants to increase their knowledge about the Bible or just to increase their welcome to the Lord,” Duff said.

For 10 consecutive Tuesdays, the class will meet at Mercy Ministries at 6:30 p.m. Maher said no sign up is necessary, however, there is a $15 cost for the syllabus.

Mercy Ministries is located at 2084 N. Commercial Ave. Church services are Sunday mornings at 10 a.m., Sunday evenings at 6 p.m. and Thursday evenings at 7 p.m.

The nondenominational church was started four years ago by Pastor David Godat.

“Me and Pastor Dave, we both have the same vision and that’s to get people in the right direction,” Duff said.

“We believe in the Bible and we believe in the power of it and we just believe people can have a better life than what this world seems to offer right now.”

In addition, the church has a Mercy House that was started in the church’s basement in July 2015.

Since then, the church has been able to obtain a home, mainly for women, at an undisclosed location in St. Clair.

Duff said the church has helped former drug users and those who have been in prison.

“We’re here just to spread the Gospel – the good news,” Duff said.
