A St. Clair man was arrested after police located three vehicles that were reported stolen.

Cory L. Gumpenberger, 41, was charged in Franklin County Associate Circuit Court with three counts of stealing a motor vehicle and one count of stealing a handgun.

Police were dispatched to a residence at the 900 block of Maupin Street Monday, Dec. 31, at 8:10 a.m. regarding a stolen 1998 Chevrolet Z-71 pickup truck, according to Police Chief Bill Hammack.

An officer located the vehicle at 9 a.m. parked at a factory on Bolte Lane with Gumpenberger inside. He was arrested at the scene, according to Hammack. During the arrest, police found a stolen .38 caliber Smith & Wesson revolver in Gumpenberger’s possession.

Officers also found a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu in the same parking lot. The Malibu was reported stolen Dec. 29 from a residence on Quail Ridge Drive.

Additionally, police located a 2008 Dodge Charger that was reported stolen Dec. 30. Gumpenberger confessed to stealing all of the vehicles, according to Hammack.

The stolen firearm was found in the Dodge Charger when he stole the vehicles. His bond was set at $50,000, according to Hammack.

Gumpenberger was previously charged with tampering with a motor vehicle and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia Wednesday, Oct. 31.

A sheriff’s deputy saw a 2010 Dodge Charger in Parkway Village and initiated a traffic stop, according to Hammack. Gumpenberger was driving the vehicle and the deputy arrested him. Officers found drug paraphernalia in the vehicle.

Gumpenberger confessed to a St. Clair detective that he had stolen the vehicle a few days prior.
