Members and leaders of Boy Scout Troop 721 performed one of their annual service projects over the weekend as they participated in the 46th Operation Clean Stream project.
The Scouts from the Gravois Trail District in the Greater St. Louis Area Council are based in South St. Louis County and annually since 2008 have made the trek to Franklin County to help clean the Meramec River. The group launched from Shady Beach off of Highway K and came to shore at Shorehaven off of Pond Ford Road. In between, they filled their canoes with any kind of trash they could find, which this year included old tires, planks of wood, metal scrap, golf balls and an old boat. All materials collected are properly disposed of or recycled.
