The St. Clair area was hit hard by several rounds of thunderstorms throughout the day Thursday that produced strong winds, small hail and downpours of rain. Some reports stated the area received at least 5 or 6 inches of rain on Thursday, causing some flooding on area roads and filling drainage creeks to over capacity. At one point Thursday afternoon, Highway K south of St. Clair had to be closed for a short period of time because of a tree and power lines down and high water flowing across the road just north of the Meramec River Bridge. Here, a couple of vehicles travel through the swiftly flowing water across the highway as another waits on the other side to cross. Both the St. Clair Police Department and St. Clair Fire Protection District stated that there were no reports of damage or injuries related to Thursday’s inclement weather.
