Five people were seriously hurt in a car crash after the vehicle traveled off the road on Interstate 44 Sunday, June 2.
Mohammed A. Hatem, 18, St. Louis, was driving a 2008 Hyundai Sante Fe east on I-44 near mile marker 226 when the vehicle traveled off the left side of the road, struck a cable barrier and overturned at 6:22 p.m., according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol preliminary report.
Hatem and passengers Alyssa Diesselhorst, 20, Livingston, Ill., and Devin A. Morgan, 20, Imperial, were taken to Mercy Hospital St. Louis by air ambulance.
Passenger Daryn J. Karnes, 14, St. Louis, was taken to SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital by air ambulance and passenger Riley A. Morgan, 18, was taken to Barnes Jewish Hospital by air ambulance.
The driver and passengers were not wearing seat belts, the patrol said.
