St. Clair Police and the Franklin County Narcotics Enforcement Unit seized methamphetamine and a lab on Wednesday and arrested three individuals allegedly involved.

According to information provided by St. Clair Police Chief Bill Hammack, authorities from both agencies visited an apartment at 710 Virginia Mines Road near the downtown area at about 11 a.m. There, after a thorough search, they found methamphetamine in a bedroom of the apartment.

Hammack said a meth lab also was located in a pickup truck parked in the driveway of the residence.

A 39-year-old man, 25-year-old woman and 19-year-old man were arrested at the scene. Names of the individuals are being withheld until formal charges are issued.

“We received information that there was some narcotics activity at this location,” Hammack told The Missourian. “Detective Sgt. Shanna Lane did some research and discovered that some of the residents at the location were purchasing a fair amount of pseudoephedrine, much more than the normal amount someone would purchase.

“We contacted the task force and asked them to assist us.”

Pseudoephedrine is a key ingredient used to manufacture meth.

Hammack also said that a 13-year-old boy and 8-year-old girl belonging to the 39-year-old man who was arrested were removed from the house. The Missouri Department of Social Services in Franklin County was contacted.

Charges of manufacturing methamphetamine and endangering the welfare of a child are being sought on all three suspects through the Franklin County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

Fourth Individual

In addition, Hammack said a fourth individual from a nearby residence was arrested.

The chief said that during the meth investigation, officers searched another residence located a few houses away from 710 Virginia Mines Road after a man was seen leaving the house.

Narcotics were not located, Hammack said, but stolen property from a residence outside the city limits on Highway AB was found in a parked vehicle at that residence on Virginia Mines.

A 38-year-old St. Clair man was arrested in connection for his alleged involvement in that case. Charges will be sought through the prosecuting attorney’s office.
