Union and St. Clair firefighters work on freeing one of the occupants involved in Saturday morning's crash on westbound Interstate 44 at the 245 mile marker.

Two people were injured and transported to an area hospital early Saturday when they were involved in a one-vehicle accident on westbound Interstate 44 between Union and St. Clair.

The crash at mile marker 245 happened at about 6:30 a.m. when a passenger car traveled off the right side of the highway and crashed on to the North Service Road below.

One of the occupants had to be extricated from the vehicle.

The Missouri Highway Patrol and Union and St. Clair fire personnel were working the scene.

The extent of the injuries is unknown as are the names of the individuals involved.
