Firefighters from several districts, the majority of whom were from St. Clair, battled a two-alram house fire well into the afternoon on Saturday on Maupin Road in the Luebbering area southeast of St. Clair.
Crews first were dispatched to the residence at 9004 Maupin Road at about 10:40 a.m. Saturday. The blaze initially was reported as a deck fire, but it quickly spread to the home and engulfed the inside in flames.
No one was injured. The home was destroyed.
Firefighters on the scene said the owner was home at the time the fire started. She indicated that the fire started outside the residence and spread to the deck. She called 911 at that time.
When the first crews arrived, the blaze had spread to the home, and fire was coming from the roof.
The fire was declared under control about two hours after it was reported.
Shortly after that fire was under control, firefighters were called to an apartment fire in St. Clair at 589 North Commercial Ave. near the intersection of Kitchell Avenue.
When personnel arrived at about 1:25 p.m., light smoke was coming from the building.
That small fire was under control within a couple of minutes.
