A Franklin County man is charged in a federal indictment with felony drug charges, the U.S. attorney’s office reported.

Robbie J. Bailey, 34, St. Clair, was arraigned Monday in U.S. District Court in St. Louis. He is charged in a federal grand jury indictment with one count each of possession of pseudoephedrine with intent to manufacture methamphetamine and possession of methamphetamine.

The charges stem, in part, from a traffic stop last March in Franklin County. The suspect allegedly was in possession of about 6 grams of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia when he was stopped by a Missouri Highway Patrol trooper.

The federal charges carry a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and/or fines of up to $250,000. A judge will follow U.S. sentencing guidelines in determining the actual sentence.

The case was investigated by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, the highway patrol and Franklin County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney John Mantovani is handling the case for the attorney’s office.

Bailey also is charged in a Frankin County warrant issued Aug. 12 with felony resisting arrest by fleeing causing a substantial risk of death or serious injury.

Franklin County deputies got in pursuit of a pickup truck Aug. 10 south of St. Clair. The driver ditched the truck after fleeing from officers for 30 to 40 minutes and escaped on foot, The Missourian was told.

One of the deputies involved in the chase identified Bailey as the driver and the man’s cellphone was found at the scene, according to reports.
