Franklin County Sheriff's Office and St. Clair Fire Protection District personnel on Friday night were assisting St. Louis County authorities check out information that may be connected to the father-son duo who disappeared on Tuesday at the Meramec River access at Pacific Palisades.

Franklin County Sheriff's Major Mike Copeland told The Missourian at the Chouteau Claim access in the Moselle area on Friday evening that a boater allegedly found some personal effects from either 36-year-old Michael Hill or his 16-year-old son, David Hill, on the bank of the Meramec River near the old railroad trestle that runs parallel to the road that leads to the river access near Highway AH and Old Cove Road.

Little else was known.

A missing persons detective from St. Louis County arrived at the river access shortly after 6 p.m. and traveled with St. Clair firefighters in a rescue boat to the railroad trestle where the property allegedly was found.

"As I understand it, someone found some property of Mr. Hill's," Copeland said. "It was found near the railroad trestle. Right now, it's just being checked out. We don't know if it's anything or not."

Copeland said St. Louis County is heading the investigation. Additional personnel from there was expected to arrive at the river access throughout the evening.

The Chouteau Claim access is near where the Meramec and Bourbeuse rivers meet.
