Authorities are investigating a fire that caused heavy damage to a home in St. Clair late Tuesday morning.
Emergency personnel were dispatched to the residence at 1455 N. Commercial Ave. at 10:08 a.m. after a passerby noticed smoke and flames coming from the single-story house.
When the first St. Clair Fire Protection District crews arrived, they were able to quickly knock down what was termed a "significant fire," but not before heavy damage had occured.
It appears the fire started in the living room.
No one was home at the time of the fire. The residence is owned by Charles and Denna Shepherd.
Information about the fire could not be gathered until after The Missourian's Wednesday press deadline. For more, see the Weekend Missourian.
