A trivia night and silent auction are planned to benefit the Historic First Baptist Church.
The event will be held Saturday, Feb. 16, at St. Bridget School Gymnasium, 223 W. Union St.
Doors will open at 6 p.m. Trivia starts at 7 p.m.
The cost is $200 for a table of 10. Players may bring their own food and drink.
To reserve a table, contact Brad Reed, 636-271-2308; Cody Kelly, 636-675-32081 firstname.lastname@example.org; or Gildehaus Comfort Systems, 636-271-6665.
Now that the church sanctuary and education building have been elevated above the flood plain, the trivia night represents a big push to raise enough funds to renovate the interior of both buildings, said Norbert Gildehaus, who co-chairs the project with Bob Masson.
Benton Kelly, project manager, said a dozen local tradesmen and contractors have offered to provide free labor on the renovation.
The small frame church, which is the oldest African-American church in the vicinity, was established in 1874.
It has provided a church home, education facility, food pantry and regional gathering place for the African-American community for 140 years.
“We have to keep it as part of the community,” Gildehaus said.
