Four Pacific students participated in the 2018 American Legion Boys State of Missouri, held June 16-23.
The Pacific Eagles Aerie 3842 sponsored all four boys.
Mason Fleming, Trevor Repp, Nicholas Hoerchler and Michael Gruper took part in the government studies program on the campus of the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg.
The boys, all high school juniors last year (now seniors), attended the eight-day leadership and citizenship training program, which is designed to educate and train Missouri’s young leaders in functional citizenship, leadership and government.
Nearly 1,000 student leaders built an entire state government in a single week.
Participants were selected based on their leadership, citizenship, academics and character during their junior year at Pacific High School.
“This is a program that is very dear to us,” said Dan McClain, Eagles president. “This is something we look forward to every year and over the years we’ve seen the benefits these young men reap from this experience.”
Boys State staff is comprised of educational, legal, professional and civic leaders who volunteer their time each year. Missouri Boys State is a 501(c)3 organization and is an American Legion program.
Upon completion of the program, participants become eligible for scholarships from 33 colleges and universities and are eligible for two or three hours of university credit in political science from the University of Central Missouri.
