Members of the Truman Elementary School Care Team make their presence felt among fellow students with creative community service projects.
The Care Team, which is part of the Truman leadership teams, meets monthly on early dismissal days to create craft projects for residents of Pacific Care Center.
Last week, the 19-member team used Super Bowl excitement to organize a schoolwide food drive to benefit the Agape House Food Pantry.
Care Team members dubbed their food drive “Souper Bowl,” and enlisted the help of the entire student body. They read announcements over the school intercom and sent home fliers with students to help rally donations.
The team collected a total of 694 cans of food from Truman Elementary families. Team members boxed the food for delivery to the Agape House.
A total of 19 students make up the Care Team. They include:
Aiden Ashe, grade four; Shawn Bailey, grade five; Byran Borgmeyer, grade three; Madison Clements, grade five; Tessa Covert, grade three;
