A 26-year-old Robertsville woman was able to self extricate herself and her infant child from their SUV that had driven into a pond in the 5000 block of Calvey Creek Road just before 7:30 Wednesday morning

According to Pacific Fire Department Battalion Chief Gary Graf, the driver swerved to miss a dog and her SUV ended up about 50 feet off the roadway and came to rest in 6 to 7 feet of water.

As the vehicle was sinking she was able to kick out the rear window, escape with her child, swim to shore and walked 500 feet to a residence for help.

The driver was transported to Mercy Hospital Washington by Meramec EMS with minor injuries. Graf said the infant was also taken to the hospital by a family member who arrived on scene.
