Palo Verde Valley AJROTC upset Pacific MCJROTC, 1,003 to 954, in the National Air Rifle New Shooter League.
Palo Verde Valley was able to win despite averaging 29 points lower than Pacific coming into this game.
Snapping a four-game win streak, Pacific MCJROTC dropped to 4-1 for the season. The team is currently in fifth place.
Pacific MCJROTC was led by Amanda Benetin who shot a 268. The remaining contributing members were Lucas Hicks, Skylar Neaveill and Kloey Fleming. Pacific MCJROTC is coached by Brian Cain.
With the win, Palo Verde Valley AJROTC is in sixth place with a 4-1 record.
Next up, Palo Verde Valley AJROTC will compete against Hopewell AJROTC from Huntersville, N.C., which has a 3-1 record.
Pacific MCJROTC will compete against Ozark which has a 5-0 record.
The teams are competing in the National Air Rifle “New Shooter” League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, a national team league exclusive to athletes in their first year of competition.
Teams are from high schools and junior rifle clubs throughout the United States.
Over 10 weeks, each team will compete in eight games. Each week, each team is paired with another team with a near equal win-loss record.
In each game, the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match, modeled after Olympic rifle competitions, but adapted to high school age athletes.
