After being postponed due to turbulent weather in the area that made the laying of asphalt impossible, Pacific’s new Scenic Library branch’s grand opening has been moved to Monday, Aug. 27.
According to Library Director Steven Campbell, crews will again attempt to put down asphalt for the branch parking lot this Wednesday, Aug. 22.
The books will most likely be moved Thursday and Friday as well, he said.
Campbell said crews weren’t able to lay asphalt in the parking lot last week or over the weekend at the new facility due to rain.
“The building is complete, but we can’t get an occupancy permit or move our books in without a parking lot,” he said.
The new branch was slated to reopen Monday, Aug. 20, at Lamar Parkway and Rose Lane. He said the old branch will be closed Thursday, until the grand opening of the new location.
Campbell said the building is shaping up to be another great addition to the Scenic Library community. He said the furniture is inside of the building, but there is still more to move.
“The furniture is all in. It looks beautiful and I can’t wait to get it open,” he said. “The inside of the building looks gorgeous and the branch manager and staff are chomping at the bit to get in there.”
The 11,000-square-foot building replaces the existing 4,500-square-foot downtown facility.
The new branch will feature dedicated teen and children’s areas; a 1,200-square-foot public meeting and programming room; teen gaming area with an Xbox One; children’s activities, including a Lego table, magnet walls and 55-inch touch-screen tablet; two patios with shade structures and outdoor seating; two study rooms; an adult seating area with a fireplace; and other features.
