The Pacific Lions Club is asking the public to look out for collection boxes placed around Pacific for its school backpack drive. The Lions are collecting school supplies that will be distributed to Meramec Valley R-III School District students at a back-to-school party Saturday, July 21, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lions Den, 319 W. Meramec St.

Boxes were placed this weekend at Dave Sinclair Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, 2326 W. Osage St.; Bank Star, 1999 W. Osage; Citizens Bank, 2245 W. Osage; B & H Market, 2244 W. Osage; Pacific Library, 119 W. St. Louis St.; Husky, 2325 Husky Way; ATI, 19 Industrial Drive; Pacific Eagles, 707 W. Congress; and First State Community Bank, 302 W. St. Louis St.

Basic supplies needed for elementary grades include 24-count crayons, No. 2 yellow pencils, glue sticks, plastic folders, blunt tip scissors, highlighters, washable markers, large erasers, composition notebooks, supply boxes and tissues.

Students also need dry erase markers, red ink pens, pocket folders, yellow highlighters, scissors, composition books, 12-count colored pencils, wooden rulers, wide-ruled loose paper, and standard-sized backpacks (no wheels).

Tennis shoes with non-marking soles are required for physical education.

Other items that are needed include paper towels, paper plates, wet wipes, hand sanitizer and storage baggies.
