The Meramec Valley R-III School Board has awarded a contract for construction of a new preschool building.
The new building will allow the district to combine its three preschool programs, presently located in the Community School Building on West Union, and the Early Childhood Center on West Osage.
The action took place during the Dec. 20 school board meeting.
Wright Construction Services, St. Peters, was awarded the bid to build the new early childhood center on property located east of Zitzman Elementary School. The property was donated by the late Doris Hoffman.
Total amount of the contract is $4,363,600, which includes a base bid of $4,222,000, plus three alternates at a cost of $141,000.
The successful passage of the Proposition K bond issue in April 2017 provided the needed funding to construct a new early childhood center.
The district plans to move classes into the new building for the new school year in August 2018.
